5 years ago today this album came out as my first official Great Dane release: Alpha Dog - 3/12/13 (via Alpha Pup Records). after years of making the weekly pilgrimage from OC to LA for Low End Theory (church) , i somehow finessed my way into a meeting with Daddy Kev about writing something for him - he told me to ‘start from scratch’ since my lazy ass just wanted to compile some soundcloud beats and call it a day; but i took his advice and a few months later Alpha Dog was born. i had only been making my own music for about a year-and-a-half at this point, but this project just seemed ready; an honest expression of who i was at that time. after it dropped it took me a while to realize how big of an impact it was having, and that maybe i could keep doing this music thing for the long haul. these days i think of it as my north star, guiding me in all my creative decisions - like ‘hmm would 2013 Dane be down for this? cuz that dude was on one’.
